Bookish Birdhouses Art Show

Display your artistic talents and celebrate the love of books at our Bookish Birdhouses Art Show! Pick up a decorative birdhouse at the library with a $1 deposit, and decorate it in honor of your favorite book or author. Return your completed birdhouse no later than Sept. 8 to have your deposit returned and be included in our Bookish Birdhouses Art Show. The decorated birdhouses will be on display inside the library Sept. 15 - 30. Submissions should be family-friendly. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate! One birdhouse per person, please. Supplies are limited and we cannot provide birdhouses to classrooms or businesses.

Introvert Book Club

Want to join a book club but just don’t have the time for a regular meeting? This is the book club for you! Each month there’s a new book selection, but there’s never a meeting. Copies of the book are available at the Information desk. The August book selection is “Unlikely Animals” by Annie Hartnett.

Dungeons & Dragons for Kids

Monday, August 11, 5 – 6:30 p.m.

Kids in grades 3 – 8 are invited to join Larcen Carkhuff at the library for an introduction to the game, Dungeons and Dragons. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register.

Gory Stories Book Club

Tuesday, Aug. 12, noon

Do you love true crime? Join our monthly Gory Stories Book Club! Bring your lunch and join other true crime addicts to discuss a new book each month and share our favorite books, podcasts, & documentaries! Copies of the book can be picked up at the library information desk. The August book selection is “The Trial of Lizzie Borden” by Cara Robertson.

September Mystery Bag

Wondering what to read next? Check out our FREE monthly mystery bags for adults! Mystery bags have a different theme every month and contain a surprise selection of 4-5 books and an adult craft. Return the library books when you’re done with them - keep the craft! The September theme is “Feels Like Fall,” and features a selection of cozy mysteries, classic literature, academia, and moody novels inspired by the changing seasons. The craft is an Altoids tin bookshelf. Registration opens Aug. 25. Ages 18+

Watercolor Landscape Paint-Along Class

Thursday, Sept. 4, 5:30 p.m.

Join local artist, Kirsten Warrick, for a watercolor landscape paint-along class at the library! Attendees are encouraged to bring an apron; all other materials will be provided. Registration is required to attend. Library cardholder registration opens Aug. 25. Non-cardholders are welcome to register beginning Aug. 27. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register. Ages 18
