Neighbors Helping Neighbors, an ecumenical community group is collecting school supplies to give to the teachers who then can distribute them to kids who run out during the year. Donations may be delivered 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, to First Lutheran Church, 309 E. Third St. N. in Newton. Items will be delivered to the schools the week of Aug. 18.

Items being collected are typical back to school items. Some of these hiding in your home waiting to be given to someone who will use them: pencils, Kleenex, index cards, black expo markers, glue sticks, scissors, mints (for coughs, cough drops cannot be dispensed), pencil eraser tops, loose leaf paper, expo erasers, crayons, 2 pocket folders- in solid colors, highlighters.
Also collected for the nurses are: peppermints, Life Savers, bandages, Ace bandages, Band-Aids - all sizes, kitchen sponges and small ziploc bags and sealable refillable water bottles.
