The Jewel Box Quilters Guild quilt show, “Every Quilt is a Celebration,” was June 20-21 on the Grinnell College Campus. Winners included Newton residents Diane Moles and Karen Clark. More than 236 people visited the show over two days.
One hundred quilts were judged in six categories by a panel of six judges from the Grinnell community. First place and honorable mention in each category were recognized and awarded ribbons. Winners for the Large Quilt category were Amy Swanson and Diane Moles; Medium Quilt, Jean Reavis and Jeanette Copeman; Small Quilt, Sherry Folks and Susie Kinney; Presidents’ Challenge, Mary Fitzgerald and Barb Lease; Original Design, Rebecca Loew and Jean Nolte; Miscellaneous Item, Janet Carl and Karen Clark. Jules Wood received the Viewers’ Choice award based on popular votes from attendees. Jennifer Palmer won the raffle quilt created by Guild members.
The Jewel Box Quilters Guild meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Thursday each month at the Drake Community Library in Grinnell. The membership of 52 includes people from Poweshiek, Jasper, Marshall, Tama and Polk Counties. Students and guests are always welcome.
