Cartooning Workshop with Buck Jones

Tuesday, July 1, 1 p.m.

Join cartoonist, Buck Jones at the library for an interactive cartooning class. This program is best suited for children entering grades Kindergarten through 6th grade. No registration required.

Library Closed for Independence Day

The Newton Public Library will be closed July 4 and 5, in observance of Independence Day. The library will resume regular hours on Monday, July 7.

Des Moines Symphony Instrument Petting Zoo

Tuesday, July 8, 10 a.m.

Children ages 4 to 7 may register to attend this hands-on program introducing the violin and the cello. Registration will open June 4. Kids will have the chance to try a violin and a cello, and learn about the different sounds and dynamics of these stringed instruments. There will also be a music note craft to take home.

Teen Craft: Mandala Painted Rocks

Wednesday, July 9, 5:30 p.m.

Teens in grades 5 – 12 are invited to join us for mandala rock painting at the library. Registration is required. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register.

Cold-Blooded Redhead Reptile Show

Wednesday, July 9, 9 a.m. & 10:30 a.m.

Lindsay Butikofer of the Cold-Blooded Redhead will show off some of her amazing reptiles, including snakes, lizards, and a tortoise! Tickets are required and will be available for pick up at the library beginning May 20. This event is best suited for children ages 3 – 12.

Pop Art Painted Flowerpots Class

Thursday, July 10, 5:30 p.m.

Join local artist, Kirsten Warrick, for a flowerpot painting class. We’ll be painting flowerpots in a pop art style ice cream cone design. Attendees are encouraged to bring an apron; all other materials will be provided. Registration is required to attend. Registration for library cardholders opens June 30. Non-cardholders are invited to register beginning July 2. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register. Ages 18+.

Houseplant Propagation Workshop with The Plant Dealer

Join Sylvia Townsend, owner of The Plant Dealer in Newton, for a propagation workshop at the Newton Public Library.
