UPDATE: Newton police release name of the man found dead after search warrant

Authorities are now awaiting the autopsy of the 66-year-old Des Moines man

Newton Police Department has released the name of the man who was found dead earlier this week in a home that was about to be searched by local, county and federal officers. Police identified the body as Tomie Lee Misner, 66, of Des Moines. Authorities are now awaiting an autopsy.

According to a press release from the police department, a search warrant was executed at 7:03 p.m. June 9 in the 1200 block of North Fourth Avenue East. Sources told Newton News the search warrant involved drugs. Officers found a deceased adult inside the home who was dead before officers arrived.

The identity of the individual was being withheld pending notification of the family.

Detectives with the Newton Police Department and agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation have begun an investigation to determine circumstances of the death. In the coming days, the Office of the State Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine an exact cause and manner of death.

Police say there is no known or ongoing threat to the community.
