Police are actively investigating a death in the Newton community.
According to a press release from the Newton Police Department this morning, a search warrant was executed at 7:03 p.m. June 9 in the 1200 block of North Fourth Avenue East. Local, county and federal law enforcement officers found a deceased adult inside the home. The person was dead before officers arrived.
The identity of the individual is being withheld pending notification of the family.
Detectives with the Newton Police Department and agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation have begun an investigation to determine circumstances of the death. In the coming days, the Office of the State Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine an exact cause and manner of death.
Police say there is no known or ongoing threat to the community.
