Library Closed for Memorial Day
The Newton Public Library will be closed Monday, May 26 in observance of Memorial Day. Regular library hours will resume on May 27.
Summer Reading Kick Off!
Monday, June 2, 4 – 6 p.m.
Summer Reading for all ages will kick off on Monday, June 2 with our registration event from 4 to 6 p.m. Children who register that evening will receive a free ice cream treat from Sea Turtle Ice Cream Truck. Dairy-free and gluten-free options will be available. Elephant & Piggie book characters will be there to say hello to children. Event is generously sponsored by Van Hemert Family Dentistry. Very Hungry Caterpillar Party with the Jasper County Health Department
Wednesday, June 4, 9 a.m.
The Jasper County Health Department and the Library are teaming up for this fun event for children ages 0-5. The first 100 children will receive a free copy of the board book, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” Enjoy crafts, a snack to go and stories at stations throughout the library.
Cockatoo Encounter
Thursday, June 5, 10 & 11 a.m.
Join Logan Jimenez at the library for a show that teaches audiences about cockatoos, conservation, and pet guardianship. Logan rescues cockatoos that are no longer wanted as pets and uses these rescued cockatoos as educational ambassadors. Tickets for both showtimes will be available at the library beginning May 20. This event is best suited for children ages 3 to 12.
An Evening of Music for Little Ones
Monday, June 9, 6 p.m.
Join us for an Evening of Music for Little Ones on June 9 at 6 p.m. on the library lawn. This event is for babies, toddler and preschoolers and led by elementary music teacher, Rachel Guzman. We will enjoy interactive music with lots of action, scarves, shaky eggs and parachutes! Bring a blanket to sit on. If it is raining, the event will be held in the library meeting room.
Summer Plant Swap
Plant Swap: Thursday, June 12, 5 – 6 p.m.
Plant Drop Off: June 7 – 11
Pick up something green at our summer plant swap! Drop off your extra or unwanted plants at the library June 7 - 11 and pick up a swap ticket for each plant you bring in. Donations may include houseplants, flowers, vegetables, perennials, and annuals. Bring your tickets back on June 12 between 5 - 6 p.m. to exchange them for new plants to take home!
