Newton Municipal Band opens summer concert series

Newton Municipal Band will take the stage at the bowl at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 29 in Maytag Park. This concert will open the Newton Parks Department’s “Summer Concerts in the Park” series for 2025.

The band, directed by Jim Beerends, has drawn its musical talent not only from Newton, but from many neighboring communities, including Colfax, Sully, Lynnville, Mitchellville, Monroe, Bondurant and Grinnell. For this first concert, director Beerends has chosen a bit of something for everyone’s musical taste. The audience can expect to hear some show tunes, a little march music, some sweet melodies, and even a bit of Dick Clark! Master of Ceremonies, Fred Chabot will be at the mic.

Bring blankets or lawn chairs, your friends and neighbors, and enjoy the beauty of our lovely musical setting. Start your summer on the right note!
