Legacy Valor Quilters of Newton, a member of the National Quilts of Valor Foundation, had recent Presentations of Quilts of Valor on Oct. 5 at the Jasper County Extension Office and Nov. 9 at the St Luke’s Methodist Church in Newton. The presentations include an introduction of each Veteran, wrapping of their quilts around their shoulders and the reading of their service information. Quilters felt it was a privilege to honor these local Veterans who served this country and protected our freedoms.
The Quilts of Valor Foundation is a national organization founded in 2003 by a “Blue Star” mother, Catherine Roberts. The quilts are meant to offer healing, peace and comfort. The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover all combat service members and veterans who have honorably served our nation, whether in peacetime or times of crisis.
