Decks of 3 bridges in Jasper County to be repaired

Supervisors authorize maintenance to bring them up to state standards

Jasper County Engineer Michael Frietsch speaks to the board of supervisors on Feb. 28 about rock bids that will be stockpiled in three areas of the county that cover the northwest and southwest quadrants. The rock will be used on gravel roads that are in poor conditions after multiple freeze-thaw cycles.

The decks of three bridges in Jasper County have been approved for repairs by the board of supervisors. Officials on Sept. 17 voted 3-0 to hire Denco Highway Construction Corp., of Mingo, to repair the decks of bridges J05, J10 and K32 for almost $63,000 and bring them up to state specifications.

According to county documents, Denco Highway Construction will mark all deteriorating and delaminated areas, diamond saw the perimeters and chip to a firm base to remove all unsound areas. Open patches will be sandblasted clean and be repaired with state-approved, rapid-set material. Debris will be disposed.

Jasper County Engineer Michael Frietsch said about five to six different bridges were inspected and found three in need of repairs: J05 is located on Highway F-27 in Rock Creek State Park, J10 is also on F-27 about a half-mile east of Highway T-38 and K32 is on F-62 a half-mile north of 80th Avenue East.
