Multi-county vehicle chase with speeds of 120 mph ends in Jasper County

55-year-old Knoxville man charged with felony eluding among other crimes

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office assisted in a multi-county vehicle pursuit in which the evading driver, 55-year-old Quinton Polson of Knoxville, reached speeds of 120 mph and was ultimately apprehended by authorities early afternoon on March 4 near the southeastern border of the county.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, county communications was notified at 2:06 p.m. that Mahaska County was involved in a vehicle pursuit east of Pella heading toward Peoria. Deputies in Jasper County were dispatched to help stop the vehicle, described as a 2004 black Volkswagen Jetta.

The pursuit went in many directions and continued northeast toward Lynnville. Tire deflating devices were successfully deployed at 2:37 p.m. in Poweshiek County at the intersection of 535th Avenue and 15th Street. Another device was deployed at the South 124th Avenue East and Highway T-38 South intersection.

When the vehicle turned south onto Highway T-38 South, a pursuit intervention technique — or P.I.T. maneuver — was executed by a Marion County sheriff’s deputy, ending the chase near the intersection of the highway and South 128th Avenue at approximately 2:41 p.m.

Polson was taken into custody after resisting arrest, authorities alleged. He was then taken to a hospital in Mahaska County to treat non-life-threatening injuries before being released to the custody of the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office. No public or law enforcement officers were injured in the pursuit.

Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office has since charged Polson with felony eluding, operating while intoxicated, possession of methamphetamine-third, possession of marijuana-third, possession of drug paraphernalia and interference with official acts.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol all assisted Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office with the capture of Polson.

Sully Fire and Ambulance were dispatched to the scene of the crash.
