Newton High Schoolers decided on Sept. 28 that Caleb Mattes and Izzy Wilson will be this year’s Homecoming king and queen. The two were crowned by 2022 Homecoming Queen Kaitlyn Bloom during coronation in the high school gymnasium, and they were later paraded around town for community festivities.

The homecoming court was chosen on Sept. 22 and also included Jacy Linahon, Olivia Hotchkin, Brooklyn Linahon, Addison White, Estella Allen, Ella Swarts and Kadance Ahn, and Blake Schilling, Elijah Stewart, Jacob Sweeny, Nathanael Lamb, Cody Klein, Nathan Lampe and Nathan Milburn.

Meet your 2023 Homecoming King Caleb Mattes:
Caleb Mattes is the son of Lori and Steve Mattes. Caleb participates in the Fellow of Christian Athletes and is a member of the basketball, football and soccer teams, and he is captain in all three sports. He has earned all-district honors in both football and soccer. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is on the “A” honor roll. Caleb participates in his church youth group. In his spare time, he enjoys lifting weights, hanging out with friends and beating his little brothers in Madden. His favorite carnival food is a footlong corn dog. Caleb plans to attend a private four-year college and possibly play football and study marketing and communications.

Meet your 2023 Homecoming Queen Izzy Wilson:
Isabelle Wilson is the daughter of Corey Wilson and the late David Wilson. Isabelle is better known as Izzy Wilson to the students at Newton High. Izzy is a member of the National Honor Society, student council and is working to achieve her silver cord for volunteering. She participates on the tennis team in the spring. Izzy is very active in band, jazz band, wind ensemble and pep band. She is a drum major in the band and president of the student council and National Honor Society. Currently, she is a school board student representative and is working on an internship at the Jasper County Museum. Izzy enjoys her nails, playing pickle ball and hanging with friends in her free time. Her favorite carnival food is strawberry lemonade. After graduation, Izzy plans to attend the University of Iowa and major in French education.
