Days for Girls International is an award-winning non-governmental organization (NGO) that works to shatter stigma and limitations associated with menstruation for improved health, education and livelihood outcomes. To date, Days for Girls has reached 2.9 million women and girls in 150 countries on six continents with quality sustainable menstrual care solutions and health education.
The Newton IA DfG Team officially started in September 2016. A small group of community members had put out a call for those interested in sharing menstrual solutions for women and girls throughout the world. At this meeting it was decided to hold a workshop once a month to build and assemble the components needed for a standard DfG kit. The process to create and prepare these components includes both sewing and non-sewing activities.
During the past seven years we have created and assembled 817 kits which have been sent to 14 countries throughout the world. DfG International has introduced many improvements to the DfG kit, the construction of the kit and means of distribution. Currently, the group no longer assemble the kits, but does provide all the components. These components are then delivered to the Liberty, M., Collection Point. The DfG kits are then assembled on site.
A necessary piece of distribution requires every girl to attend a 90-minute educational presentation. At the conclusion of the class, the personal kits are handed out.
Locally workshops are held on the fourth Thursday of the month, January to October in Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church. Monetary gifts are always accepted. Make checks payable to “Newton IA DfG” and send to 220 N. Second Ave. E. in Newton. Gifts are tax deductible. If you have questions, contact newtonia@daysforgirls.org.
