Bookish Birdhouses Art Show

Birdhouse pick up begins Aug. 1 (while supplies last)

Bookish Birdhouses Art Show: Sept. 8 – 30

Display your artistic talents and celebrate the love of books at our Bookish Birdhouses Art Show! Pick up a decorative birdhouse at the library beginning Aug. 1 (while supplies last!) with a $1 deposit, and decorate it in honor of your favorite book or author. Return your completed birdhouse no later than Sept. 5 to have your deposit returned and be included in our Bookish Birdhouses Art Show. The decorated birdhouses will be on display inside the library Sept. 8 - 30. Submissions should be family-friendly. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate! One birdhouse per person, please. Supplies are limited and we are unable to supply birdhouses to classrooms or businesses.

Borrow a Librarian: Drop-In Photo Digitizing

Monday, August 14, 9 – 11 a.m.

Now is the perfect time to start scanning those old family photos! Drop-in to learn about our Memory Lab Digitization Equipment and have our Public Services Librarian scan your photos. Attendees may bring up to 15 photos per visit and a flash drive to store their scans on. The Newton Public Library Memory Lab is made possible through the generosity of the Jasper Community Foundation.

Fall Plant Swap

Plant Drop Off: Aug. 26 – 30

Plant Swap: Thursday, Aug. 31, 5 – 6:30 p.m.

Due to popular demand, we’re offering a second plant swap!

Clean up your flower beds, split those overgrown houseplants, and prepare for autumn planting at our fall plant swap. Drop off your extra or unwanted plants and bulbs at the library Aug. 26 - 30 and pick up a swap ticket for each plant you bring in. Donations may include houseplants, perennials, and bulbs. Bring your tickets back on Aug. 31 between 5 - 6:30 p.m. to exchange them for new plants to take home. Plants must be healthy, rooted in soil (excluding bulbs), and include identification. Questions? September Mystery Bag

Wondering what to read next? Check out our FREE monthly mystery bags for adults! Mystery bags have a different theme every month and contain a surprise selection of 4-5 books and an adult craft. Return the library books when you’re done with them - keep the craft! The September theme is “Staff Picks”. The September bag will include a wide variety of our library staff’s favorite books, from across all genres. The craft is a terracotta Jack-o’-lantern candy jar. Registration opens Aug. 28. Ages 18+

B.Y.O.B Book Club

Thursday, Sept. 7, 3 p.m.

Join our new afternoon book club for adults! Choose your own book to read, based on our monthly theme, and share what you read at the meeting. It’s like a potluck for books! The September theme is “Young Adult.”

Arts & Crafts Swap

Craft Supplies Drop Off: Sept. 8 – 13

Arts & Crafts Swap: Thursday, Sept. 14, 5 – 6:30 p.m.

Refresh your crafting supplies at our arts & crafts swap! Drop off your extra or unwanted arts & crafts supplies at the library Sept. 8 - 13 and receive an event ticket to attend the swap on Sept. 14.

Donations may include unused yarn, fabric, drawing, scrapbooking, jewelry-making, sewing, and wreath-making supplies. We will also accept unused and very gently used paints, markers, crayons, colored pencils, and art supplies in good condition.
