Jasper County Sheriff’s Office says man died after falling off dock at Rock Creek

Authorities are not releasing the name of the individual at this time

A man died early this morning after falling off a dock at Rock Creek State Park, authorities from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 12:06 a.m. June 4 where the caller indicated they heard a male subject yelling for help near the west side boat ramp of Rock Creek State Park. Initial investigations shows there were two subjects fishing together when one of them fell off the dock into the water

According to a press release, the second subject called for help and was able to get the the first subject out of the water.

An officer of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources arrived on scene to find a man unresponsive. The officer requested medical assistance. Emergency response teams from Kellogg and Newton, as well as sheriff office deputies from Poweshiek County and Jasper County assisted with incident.

Helicopter assistance from MercyOne was also requested.

However, medical intervention was unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the individual is being withheld pending notification of family. The Jasper County Medical Examiner and the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner are assisting in the investigation.
