June Mystery Bag

Wondering what to read next? Check out our FREE monthly mystery bags for adults! Mystery bags have a different theme every month and contain a surprise selection of 4-5 books and an adult craft. Return the library books when you’re done with them - keep the craft. The June theme is “Distant Lands,” and will include a selection of fiction and nonfiction books about travel, adventure, and faraway places. The craft is a Lord of the Rings-inspired Hobbit door wreath. Registration opens Tuesday, May 30. Call 641-792-4108 to register. Ages 18+.

Summer Reading Kick-Off

June 1, 4 - 6 p.m.

Readers of all ages are invited to register for the Summer Reading program at our Summer Reading Kick-Off! There will be program information for Adults, and children can pick up their first Summer Reading brag tag. Attendees will also receive a ticket for a free ice cream treat from the Sea Turtle Ice Cream truck. Gluten-free and dairy-free options will be available.

Introvert Book Club

Want to join a book club but just don’t have the time for a regular meeting? This is the book club for you! Each month there’s a new book selection, but there’s never a meeting. Pick up your copy of the book of the month at the library information desk. The June selection is “Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt.

Gory Stories Book Club

June 5, noon

Do you love true crime? Bring your lunch and join other true crime addicts to share our favorite podcasts, documentaries, books, and more! The June book selection is, “The Icepick Surgeon” by Sam Kean. Copies of the book can be picked up at the library information desk.

Iowa State Insect Zoo

June 6, 9 - 11 a.m.

Check out the Iowa State University Insect Zoo at the library! Unique insects from around the world will be on display during this free, drop-in style event. All ages welcome.

Library Plant Swap

June 9, noon - 2 p.m.

Pick up something green at our summer plant swap! Drop off your extra or unwanted plants at the library June 6-8 and pick up a swap ticket for each plant you bring in. Donations may include houseplants, flowers, vegetables, perennials, and annuals. Bring your tickets back on June 9 between noon - 2 p.m. to exchange them for new plants to take home!
