Jim Witter and Ian Tanner will be bringing their new show “Brothers” to the final performance of the Jasper County Concert Association’s 2022-2023 season at 7 p.m. April 27 in the Center for Performance at Newton High School. If guests purchase a season ticket for next year, they can attend this concert for free.
For those who are not members of the association, tickets will be available at the door for $20 each. Memberships for the 2023-2024 concert season will also be sold at the door. Season memberships allow people to attend professional concerts in Newton, Indianola and Marshalltown.
Witter is a Canadian singer, pianist and producer who has been entertaining crowds for more than 30 years. His new show — performed alongside Tanner, a multi-instrumentalist — features the hits of “musical brothers” like John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Hall and Oates, The Righteous Brothers and so on.
With Witter on vocals, piano and guitar, and Tanner on bass, guitar and vocals, the musical duo put on an engaging show with videos to complement the performances and bring audiences back to the era the songs — such as “All I Have to Do is Dream” and “Eight Days a Week” — were played.
An artistic versatility has allowed Witter the opportunity to reach out and share his music and infectious personality with audiences of all ages around the world. His unique approach and comfortable rapport make crowds feel as though they are part of a private concert in the comfort of their own living room.
Coupled with a rich, powerful voice and ease of manner at the piano, it is no surprise why Witter is a favorite with theatergoers everywhere.
The 39th season of the Jasper County Concert Association will conclude after the performance by Witter and Tanner. Earlier in the year, the association hosted a tribute to James Taylor called “How Sweet It Is,” the all-female ensemble Cherish The Ladies and the folk music homage “Forever Simon and Garfunkel.”
In 1983, the Jasper County Concert Association was founded by the late Murray and Jean Nelson a group of 24 community members. They contracted with Allied Concert Services of Plymouth, Minn., to assist in selecting a varied, professional program suitable for families. A relationship that still continues today.
Each year the association’s board of directors selects four professional groups or an individual to come to Newton to perform in the Center for Performance at Newton High School. Many of the entertainers have performed on Broadway and around the globe.
