Secondary roads department to hold public meetings on gravel road plans

Jasper County to unveil new approach to road maintenance this month

Jasper County Engineer Michael Frietsch speaks to the board of supervisors on Feb. 28 about rock bids that will be stockpiled in three areas of the county that cover the northwest and southwest quadrants. The rock will be used on gravel roads that are in poor conditions after multiple freeze-thaw cycles.

Jasper County residents are encouraged to attend one of four public meetings unveiling the engineer’s new approach to gravel road maintenance.

In a post on Facebook, the county’s secondary roads department stated it has an increased budget this year and announced it will hold public meetings over the next few weeks to discuss what has frequently been cited as a main issue for many rural residents: gravel roads maintenance.

The meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. on the following dates and locations:

• April 18, Baxter City Hall, 203 S. Main St., in Baxter

• April 20, Amboy Grange, 220 High St., in Kellogg

• April 25, Lynnville City Hall, 308 East St., in Lynnville

• April 27, Prairie City Community Building, 503 S. State St., Prairie City

All are welcome to attend.
