Planning for the Future: End of Life Care and Advance Directives

Join Everystep Hospice to learn how to create advance directive documents, living wills, and designate a power of attorney, while planning for important future healthcare and end-of-life decisions. This program is free to attend and is open to the public. No registration required.

September Monthly Mystery Bag

Wondering what to read next? Check out our FREE monthly mystery bags for adults! Mystery bags have a different theme every month and contain a surprise selection of 4-5 books and an adult craft. Return the books when you’re done with them - keep the craft! The September theme is “Book Club Favorites” and includes a selection of the most popular book club titles, locally and nationally. Introvert Book Club

Want to join a book club but just don’t have the time for a regular meeting? This is the book club for you! Each month there’s a new book selection, but there’s never a meeting. Pick up your copy of the book of the month at the library information desk. The September selection is “The Bookshop on the Corner” by Jenny Colgan.

Acrylic Paint-Along Class

Sept. 1, 6 p.m.

Join local artist, Kirsten Warrick, for an acrylic paint-along class for adults! Attendees are encouraged to bring an apron, all other materials will be provided. Do you love true crime? Bring your lunch and join other true crime addicts to share our favorite podcasts, documentaries, books, and more! The September book selection is, “Dead Air” by Beth Bednar. Copies of the book can be picked up at the library information desk

Straight-Laced Girls, Uptight Ladies, & Loose Women

Sept. 15, 5:30 p.m.

In this fascinating program on women’s history, historian, Kathy Wilson looks at the changing role of American women from colonial times through the Victorian era, including what it means to be “straight-laced and uptight”. Discover what corsets and gun clubs have in common, how the house took on new importance for our female ancestors, and why a man’s home wasn’t really his castle, but rather his wife’s! This program is free to attend and is open to the public. No registration required.

Become a Library Trustee!

We’re looking for library trustees! Applicants should live in either Ward 1 or Ward 2 and must be a citizen of Newton age 18 or older, and a registered voter. Library trustees work with the Director to develop and adopt governing policies, approve operation budgets, and advocate for the library through contacts with general public, civic organizations and public officials.
