Cleaveland departs Salvation Army, facility will be covered by two new captains

Goodbye reception will be held June 26

Captain Janelle Cleaveland peeks out the window of the Salvation Army's van on March 25 in the organization's parking lot in Newton. A sizable donation from a local man who died in 2019 can be used to purchase or improve capital items at the Salvation Army, such as a new van.

Captain Janelle Cleaveland’s last day at the Salvation Army of Jasper County will be June 26.

For the past five years, Cleaveland has led the Salvation Army, 301 N. Second Ave. E., and served Newton and the surrounding communities in Jasper County. A reception will be held for Cleaveland following her final 10:45 a.m. Sunday service in the community.

Taking over the leadership roles at the local Salvation Army will be Captains Timothy and Peggy North. Their welcome reception will be held July 3. The organization stated in a press release that the Norths come with many years of experience and will be a great asset to the community.
