Jasper County Conservation Board will host an Older, Wiser, Livelier Seniors (OWLS) program and coffee at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12 at the Jasper County Armory/Annex Building in Newton. The public is invited to a program given by Brenda Smith, who works for the Iowa DNR and is also a licensed falconer. Smith will talk about how she and her husband Jeremy got started in falconry. They’ve successfully flown three red-tail hawks in recent years, releasing the first two back to the wild. Currently, they have one red-tail named Artemis who will be visiting the OWLS group.
The public is also welcome to join the Smiths again at Ashton Wildwood Park at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15 to watch Artemis the red-tail in action. This free program will take place in the Wilcox Green area at Ashton Park.
