New Library Winter Hours

New winter hours begin Monday, Dec. 20.

In an effort to better serve the community, the Newton Public Library will be adopting new winter hours with an earlier morning opening time. New hours will be:

Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Friday: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Saturday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Library Holiday Closures

The Newton Public Library will be closed Friday, Dec. 31 and Saturday, Jan. 1 for New Year’s Eve. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season!

Adult Winter Reading Program

Jan. 1 – Feb. 28

Beat the cold weather blues by curling up with a good book! Pick up a Winter Reading bookmark and log the books, magazines, eBooks, and audiobooks you borrow from the library to earn entries into our weekly prize drawings. Prizes include movie tickets, tote bags, coffee, and a new Kindle. Ages 18 and older.

Baby Storytime

Mondays, 10:30 a.m.

Baby storytime returns on Monday mornings. This special storytime is for newborns up to 18 months with their caregiver. The storytime lasts about 15 minutes and consists of a couple short books, songs, and bubble playtime. Siblings are welcome to attend. No registration required.

January Mystery Bag

Wondering what to read next? Check out our monthly mystery bags for adults. Mystery bags have a new theme every month and contain a surprise selection of 4-5 books and an adult craft. Return the books when you’re done with them; keep the craft! The January theme is “Buzzworthy Books.” The January bags will include a selection of recent bestsellers, award winners, and well-reviewed titles that you might have missed! The craft is a teacup winter wonderland fairy garden. Registration opens Dec. 27. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register.

Just for Job-Seekers

Wednesdays, 2 – 5 p.m.

Work on your resume, edit your cover letter or complete an online application during our job-seeker support hours. Contact public services librarian Becca Klein at 641-792-4108 to schedule your appointment.

Tiny Art Show

Canvas Pick Up: Jan. 3 – 31

Tiny Art Show: Feb. 1 – 28

Display your artistic talents in our tiny art show. Pick up a free 4x4 canvas at the library beginning Jan. 3 and create a mini masterpiece at home. Return your canvas by Jan. 31 to have your art included in our tiny art show. Art will be on display throughout the month of February. Submissions should be family-friendly. All ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. Canvasses available while supplies last.
