Holiday light display at Maytag Park until Jan. 1

Guests can drive through the free display every day starting at 6:30 p.m.

Maytag Park Holiday Lights will be on display through the end of the month at the location where it first debuted in the community in 2018.

The drive-thru light display — sponsored by Clemon-Maki Insurance — is a collaborative effort between the City of Newton’s parks division and Friends of Newton Parks as a way to spread holiday cheer. The park’s features, including Maytag Bowl and Maytag Pool, have been adorned with lights and decorations.

Last year the derecho caused substantial tree damage at Maytag Park, resulting in the popular holiday light display to be shifted to Agnes Patterson Park. City staff entertained the idea of keeping the light display at Agnes Patterson earlier this year but has since moved it back to Maytag Park.

Travel Iowa recently included Maytag Park Holiday Lights among its list of light displays across the state. The display can be seen 6:30 to 10 p.m. through Jan. 1.
