JCCA: David Shannon to perform Oct. 4 at NHS auditorium

Irish singer is known for his leading roles in ‘Phantom of the Opera,’ ‘Les Mis’

Ireland’s greatest showman is coming to Newton.

The Jasper County Concert Association announced David Shannon will perform 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Newton High School auditorium. The Irish singer renowned for his engaging style and charming personality onstage has been performing professionally for more than 25 years.

Shannon’s show, supported by a pianist and guitarist, will feature hits from Elton John, Billy Joel, Ed Sheeran, Dean Martin, Josh Groban, Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra, Franki Valli and the Irish rock band Kodaline. He will also perform songs from stage musicals such as “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Les Miserables.”

The seasoned singer is quite familiar with some of these Broadway tunes having starred in leading roles in “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Les Miserables” and “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” and as Judas in “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Shannon has also released two solo albums.

His latest album, “Abhaile,” was released in 2020. Shannon was also nominated for Best Actor at the Olivier Awards for his performance in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Beautiful Game.” When he’s not performing solo, Shannon enjoys a busy schedule performing with orchestras around the world.

Wearing masks to the JCCA concert is recommended.
