‘Catch Your Pet Reading’ Photo Contest

June 7 – 30

Show off your furry friends! Share a photo of your pet “reading” a library book on our Facebook page (Newton Public Library Iowa) June 7-30. Two lucky winners will be drawn for gift certificates to Earthwise Pet in Newton.

SOAR Raptor Rescue

June 22, 10 a.m.

SOAR raptor rehabilitation will bring some of their current raptor patients to the library and share information about their important work. The program will be held on the library lawn and attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on.

Tales of Colonial America and the Revolution with Darrin Crow

June 24, 6 p.m.

Join storyteller extraordinaire, Darrin Crow, as he shares tales from early America. These stories bring the streets of old Boston and Philadelphia and the battles of the Revolution to life. The program will include stories of John Paul Jones, the Blacksmith of Brandywine and Molly Pitcher. This event will be held outdoors on the library lawn. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. All ages welcome.

Yogurt Jar Macramé for Teens

June 28, 6 p.m.

Upcycle a glass Oui Yogurt jar in this fun macramé program for teens! The program will teach teens how to make a simple succulent or air plant holder using glass jars and macramé. Plants will not be provided. This program is for teens in grades 6-12 only (grade just completed). Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register.

Need help setting up your new tablet or cellphone? Would you like to learn how to download free library eBooks? Need to know what an app is? Drop-in for free tech help with the public services librarian. Bring along your smartphone or tablet, charging cables, and any passwords you need to use your device.

Pint Sized Polkas

June 29, 1 p.m.

Join children’s polka musician, Mike Schneider, for a performance of Pint-Sized Polkas. This program will be held outdoors on the library lawn and attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on.

July Mystery Bag

Wondering what to read next? Check out our monthly mystery bags for adults. Mystery bags have a new theme every month and contain a surprise selection of 4-5 books and movies, an adult craft, and other treats. Return the books and movies when you’re done with them; keep the other goodies!

July’s theme is “American as Apple Pie.” The July bags will include a selection of books about American history, travel, food, landmarks and works by prominent American authors. The craft is a set of fabric covered clothespin magnets. Registration opens June 21. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register.
