Swimmers can dive into Maytag Pool on June 4.
The 2021 pool season’s opening day will begin with toddler time at 10 a.m., which was changed from 11 a.m. in previous years. Newton Community Services Director Brian Laube said at the May 19 park board meeting this change serves as a trial run in response to feedback from those who visit the pool at that time.
Two free pool parties will be held nearly a week later. The first one will be June 10 and is provided by Advantaged Credit Union. The second free pool party will be available the next evening during Newton Fest.
The last day of the pool season will be Aug. 21, at which time the ever popular dog swim will be planned late afternoon.
Maytag Pool intends to open the season under the Phase 2 COVID guidelines spelled out in the operating plan prepared last season, Laube said. The plan is less restrictive but still limits the maximum capacity to 350 people.
Masks are not required, but are still recommended. These rules can and will likely be modified as-needed leading up to and during the season, Laube said.
