Man arrested for fourth domestic abuse incident

Benny Kirichuk, 47, of Newton, was charged with third or subsequent offense domestic abuse assault after an incident at 3:05 p.m. Jan. 10 in the 1300 block of West 16th Street South.

According to the criminal complaint, the Newton Police Department were dispatched in reference to a domestic fight. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victim who was sitting on the couch in the residence where Kirichuk and the victim had gotten into verbal argument.

During the disagreement, Kirichuk became angry and hit the victim on the left side of the face. Officers noted the victim had redness, slight bruising and minor swelling just below the left eye, next to the eye and on the left cheek.

A check of Kirichuk’s history showed he had previous domestic convictions on April 2019, July 2019 and October 2019.

He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail and remains in custody on a $5,000 cash or surety. His pre-trial conference will be at 9 a.m. Jan. 20.
