Events brought select Newton and PCM students to Izaak Walton League pond

Perfect fishing weather led to young anglers and their cop counterparts hooking plenty of bluegill and largemouth bass this past weekend.

Cops and Bobbers returned for its third year May 31 at the Izaak Walton League pond. Officer Kyle Lovan of the Newton Police Department launched the program a few years ago. Select kids from the Newton Community School District and PCM School District participated in the event alongside local police officers.

Lovan said the getting the PCM students involved was made possible by Corrine and Richard Brown. Corrine Brown had heard about Cops and Bobbers last year. Her family donated money on behalf of her late father, Frank Singer, to have kids from PCM partake in the fishing activities.
