Kayleen Mary Conter

Kayleen Mary (Kimberley) Conter, born April 17, 1946, in Newton, Iowa, to Norman and Arlene Kimberley, lived a life defined by creativity, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family. She grew up in central Iowa and graduated from Baxter High School in 1964.

Following high school, Kayleen worked for the State of Iowa in the Treasurer’s Office and various administrative jobs. While her daughters were in school, she became a Crossing Guard at Northwest Elementary in Ankeny, Iowa. Her dedication, reliability, and warm spirit made her a valued colleague and friend to many.

On November 11, 1976, Kayleen married the love of her life, Roger Conter. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished traditions. From their union came two daughters, Kristi Conter and Melissa (Conter) Butcher, who were the joy and pride of Kayleen’s life.

Outside of her work and family, Kayleen found great fulfillment in her creative passions. She was a talented seamstress who spent countless hours sewing, cross-stitching, and quilting. Her handmade creations—each stitched with patience and love—brought warmth not only to her own home but to the many family members and friends who were fortunate enough to receive them. Kayleen was always the first to offer to make adjustments to dance costumes, tailor band uniforms, create and repair color guard flags. She was also an active member of her church (Ankeny United Church of Christ) where she spent countless hours singing with the choir and volunteering her services. Kayleen will be remembered for her gentle nature, her artistic gifts, and the stories she shared of her family and friends.

Kayleen was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Conter; her parents, Norman Kimberley and Arlene (Ludeking) Kimberley; and her Brother-In-Law, John Hauser.

She is survived by her sisters, Lynette (Kimberley) Hauser of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Shirley Kimberley of Marshalltown, Iowa; her daughters, Kristi Conter of Ankeny, Iowa, and Melissa (Brian) Butcher of Ankeny, Iowa; her grandchildren, Kylie Butcher and Caleb Butcher of Ankeny, Iowa; her nephew, Brent (Nancy) Hauser (Emelia, Kate, Olivia, and Will) of State Center, Iowa; her nephew, Kevin (Amy) Hauser (Emily) of Gering, Nebraska.
