Letter to the Editor: The Colfax Senior Center isn’t just for seniors

The Colfax Senior Center will be having an open-house to share their newly redecorated facility from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30. We hope you can stop by for some refreshments and to take a look at the facility.

The main room now reflects a comfortable shade of blue paint and new wall decor. Karen Cross and Doug Wilson were hired to assist in the decorating and painting of the center. Marianne Glassford assisted by creating custom valances for the windows. New living room style furniture has also been added, which provides a very comfortable..seating area for conversations. The project of updating the look at the center was headed by Marilyn Rhone and Virginia Hunter. Donations, memorial funds, and rentals help to provide funds for the upkeep of the center.

The dining area provides six round tables and 36 comfortable chairs. The center also has a kitchen area, as well as both men’s and women’s restrooms all on the same level. The building is wheelchair accessible from the south end of the building/parking lot area. This, plus the easy-to-find location, makes it perfect for showers, birthday parties, reunions, meetings, etc. The Colfax Senior Center is available for rent to the public.

For more information on rentals, contact the center at 515-674-3474.

During the week, you will find the Senior Center in use by local senior citizens enjoying coffee time, games, conversations, and meals for lunch. The Center is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday - Friday, except for holidays. Meals are provided through Jasper County’s Elderly Nutrition program and are available at no cost for seniors 60 and over, however, donations are strongly suggested.

For further information on meals, which are also available for home delivery, call 641-792-7102.
