The daughter of Edward and Rita (Greif) Butzow, Janet was born on August 19, 1942 in Glenview, IL. She attended St. Lawrence school and graduated in 1960 from St. Edwards High School in Elgin, IL, where she was a cheerleader and met her husband, John Oberhart. The devoted couple married in 1962. Janet earned her cosmetology degree before they moved to Iowa in 1967.  She gave back to her communities as a civic leader, volunteering with the Jaycees to support children’s causes in Marshalltown, and active with the Mingo Women’s Club and as a Girl Scout leader in Mingo. Janet and John worked side-by-side managing the grain elevator in Mingo for nearly two decades. Each week she faithfully played the organ on the balcony of her longtime church, Sacred Heart in Valeria. Like her father, Janet had a green thumb and enjoyed flowers and gardening. One of her favorite places to be was the Farmers Market, and she appreciated friendships made during her Lunch Bunch outings and swimming classes later in life. But Janet was most generous in her constant love and support of family. She adored her husband’s sense of humor, which never failed to bring an easy laugh in any situation.

Those left to honor her memory include her beloved husband of 59 years, John Oberhart; her children Lisa (Gregory) Schiermeister, David (Roberta) Oberhart, Kristine Maggard and Aaron Oberhart; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters Linda (Frank) Madden and Joyce (Bill) Nerren, and a brother Dennis (Beth) Butzow. Preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Ron (Jay) Butzow.
