Bringing back the hits, one last time

Colfax Demolition Derby set for Saturday at the Jasper County Fair grounds

After taking the year off in 2020, the Colfax Demolition Derby is back and ready for it’s final run. Central Iowa’s largest demo derby will be bringing the hits starting at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Jasper County Fairgrounds in Colfax for the final time.

“We are excited to hold this wonderful event for one final time this year,” organizer Brad Magg said. “It has been great for the community of Colfax, but all good things must come to an end.”

With growing crowds each year, the demo derby has been must-see entertainment for not only Jasper County residents but people across the state and beyond. In its 12th year, organizers have an “if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it” approach to the event and hope to see it go out on a high note.

“Everything is exactly the same,” Magg said.

For Big Car Light Weld and Small Car Light Weld, prizes in the amount of $800, $500, $300 and $100, along with trophies, will be presented for both categories. For Stock Minivan/Small Truck, trophies and cash prizes of $300, $200 and $100 along with trophies will be given out. Stock Beginners will have a 60/40 split for first and second place along with trophies.

Big cars that exceed the light weld rules will have a $50 entry fee and have a 60/40 split paying out first and second place. Small cars that exceed the light weld rules will have a $30 entry fee with a guaranteed $300 payout, plus a 60/40 split paying out first and second place. A full breakdown of the rules are on the derby’s Facebook page.

The admission prices are $10 for adults and $3 for children ages 4-12 with kids three and under free.
