Colfax Historical Society
The May 17 meeting of the Colfax Historical Society was called to order at 7 p.m. by president Shawn Cogley and he thanked everyone for attending. Members present were: Karen Russell, Cindy L. Van Dusseldorp, Stanley Daft, Don and Joyce Jessen, Aaron Bartholmey, Judy Sullivan, Kevin and BJ Williams and Mary Dell Flattery. Minutes of the April 19 meeting were read. The treasurer’s report was presented.
Joyce and Don will resume painting Karlyne’s building white with tan trim May 22, if the weather permits.
The committee of Peggy, Larry D., Linda and Karen will meet to discuss our prices, etc. and possible changes to our rental contract. It was decided a Saturday would work best, so Karen will try to get this set up for June 12.
Kevin will call Shawn when he gets a Sunday date in June to move the soda fountain. Shawn has volunteered to bring his boom-tractor to help, plus more volunteers will be needed.
Shawn and Doug will get a new lock placed on the outside faucet. The faucet is dripping at this time.
Karen checked on the price of a new heavy-duty 4 x 6-foot WELCOME mat at Amazon and it will be approximately $85.
Aaron reported the library is going to get rid of the heavy wooden tables in the basement. We are interested in securing them, if and when they decide.
A big thank you to Andrea Frier, Don and Joyce Jessen for helping Karen clean and mulch the flowerbeds.
MaryDell was thanked for sharing historical items from Thor’s Flower Shop, National Field Days held in September 1956, etc. Everyone enjoyed looking at the items.
We will be open the second Saturday of the month, June 12 (from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.). The volunteers will be Judy and Cindy L. from 10 a.m. to noon and from noon until 2 p.m. will be Don and Joyce. Admission is free.
We will be open from 2 to 4 p.m. Sundays starting June 6 and continue until before Labor Day. We do need more volunteers to help out.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. June 21. It is open to anyone who would like to attend.
