Libby is the App for getting free downloadable e-books and audiobooks with a valid Colfax Library card. If you do not have a card, you can call to sign up or stop in. Colfax Library members have access to more than 16,500 eBooks and 7,500 audiobooks. Many titles offer multiple copies for checkout and users can request to be emailed or automatically check out items when they become available. Digital content is borrowed for a set period of time and titles automatically expire at the end of the lending period — there are no late fees. There is also a link on our website which makes it even easier to access.
Since March of 2020, the Colfax Library has waived overdue fees. In light of a world changed by COVID-19, the library is now instituting fine-free membership for all cardholders, effective April 15, 2021. The purpose of the library is to promote equal access for all. We feel charging fines increases inequity for those unable to pay. The library doesn’t want to add to the economic burden many are facing and hopes the elimination of this barrier will increase checkouts. We hope this encourages anyone with fees to return to the library to use all available resources. Fees for lost items will remain in effect.
The Colfax Library is also excited to announce the digitization of the Colfax newspaper from June 1880 to May 1963. This means anyone can access the microfilm of these newspapers at colfax.lib.ia.us or just google Colfax Library Iowa to reach our website. In the future, we will be adding more years (issues) all the way to the present as funding will allow. This allows people to search the paper by date, name or subject.
We will be gearing up for in-person shows for kids during the summer for our Summer Reading Program. The theme for 2021 is Color Your World. We will have more information about this as it gets closer. We plan to have our entertainers outside, with an alternate location in case of rainy weather.
