COLFAX — A big second half propelled Colfax-Mingo’s girls’ basketball team against BGM on Dec. 8.
The Tigerhawks and Bears were tied at halftime, but Colfax-Mingo outscored BGM 29-14 in the second half to win 47-32 at home during South Iowa Cedar League play.
Colfax-Mingo (1-4 overall, 1-3 in conference play) held BGM to single-digit scoring in all four quarters. The Tigerhawks put in 18 points in the fourth to pull away. It was a three-point game after three quarters.
Brennan Rhone led all scorers with 16 points, Abi Rawlins scored 11 points and Kyra Lester finished with six points, 12 rebounds, three assists and six steals. Carley Underwood tallied eight points, six boards, seven assists and three steals.
Caylee Cunningham finished with four points and four rebounds, Rawlins grabbed five boards and Rhone pulled down three rebounds.
The Tigerhawks won the game despite shooting 33 percent from the floor, 3-of-14 from 3-point range and 10-of-21 from the free-throw line.
They also committed 16 turnovers.
Belle Austin led BGM (0-5, 0-3) with 15 points, The Bears committed 21 turnovers.
North Mahaska 57,
Colfax-Mingo 31
NEW SHARON — Host North Mahaska jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 57-31 home win over Colfax-Mingo during SICL play on Dec. 11.
Rhone put in 13 points and grabbed two rebounds, but the Tigerhawks fell behind 13-4 in the first quarter and trailed 31-10 at halftime.
Rawlins had seven points, five rebounds and four steals, while Underwood tallied seven points and had two assists.
Cunningham also chipped in four points, eight rebounds, two assists and three steals and Lester grabbed six boards.
The Tigerhawks shot just 24 percent from the floor and committed 30 turnovers.
Layla Hargis collected 29 points, 15 rebounds and five steals to North Mahaska (4-1, 3-1).
