STATE CENTER — Freshman Hewitt Brinegar and seniors Landon Fenton and Colby Tool all went 3-0 on the night, but PCM’s wrestling team finished 1-2 in a road quadrangular on Dec. 10.
The Mustangs jumped out to a big lead against host West Marshall and won 46-36.
Nevada downed PCM 48-33 and Woodward-Granger was better than the Mustangs by a score of 54-24.
In the win over West Marshall, freshman Remington Fry (106), Brinegar (120), Fenton (145), Tool (160), sophomore Donovan Nickelson (195) and seniors Cooper Sloan (220) and Kinser Sloan (285) all won by fall. Sophomore Alex Courtney (113) also won 16-6.
In the loss to Nevada, Fenton, Tool and freshman Nate Richards (182) all won by fall, Courtney and Nickelson won by forfeit and Brinegar claimed a 6-2 win by decision.
The Mustangs won four matches against W-G. Brinegar, Fenton, Tool and Cooper Sloan all won by fall.
Fenton, who is ranked ninth in Class 2A at 138 pounds, is now 15-0 on the season with 14 pins at 145. Twelve of the 14 pins have come in the first period.
Tool, who is ranked third at 152, is 14-1 with 12 pins at 160. Ten of his 12 pins have been in the first period.
Brinegar improved to 13-2 with nine pins, Cooper Sloan is 10-5 with eight pins and Nickelson is 8-5 with six pins.
Mustangs finish 0-3 at Carlisle dual tournament
CARLISLE — Fenton and Brinegar combined for six wins, but Tool lost for the first time this season and PCM was defeated three times at the Carlisle dual tournament on Dec. 12.
The Mustangs lost 48-24 to both North Polk and Grinnell and was defeated 54-30 to host Carlisle.
Brinegar and Fenton each went 3-0 with two pins. Fry and Tool were 2-1 with two pins. Tool lost 8-4 to North Polk’s Chance Bockenstedt.
Against Grinnell, Brinegar (120), Tool (160) and Richards (195) all won by fall and Fenton (145) was given a forfeit.
In the loss to North Polk, Fenton, Nickelson (220) and Fry (106) each won by fall and Brinegar was given a forfeit.
In the loss to Carlisle, Fry, Brinegar, Fenton, Tool and Cooper Sloan (285) all won by fall.
PCM downs Pleasantville, Sigourney-Keota
MONROE — Eight PCM wrestlers went 2-0 on Dec. 8, and the Mustangs downed Pleasantville and Sigourney-Keota in a non-conference triangular.
The Mustangs recorded nine pins on the night and PCM defeated Pleasantville 45-36 and S-K 58-24.
Against the Trojans, PCM secured five pins and were handed a pair of forfeits. Fry (106), Brinegar (120), Cooper Sloan (220), Fenton (145) and Tool (160) all won by fall, while Courtney (113) and senior Brian Nicholson (152) both were handed forfeits. Sophomore Zeb Padget (170) also claimed an 8-5 win by decision.
In the win over Sigourney-Keota, Brinegar, Fenton, Tool and Cooper Sloan all won by pin.
Padget, Fry, Courtney, freshman Wyatt Wheeler (195) and Kinser Sloan (285) all were given forfeit wins. Nicholson won by a 14-3 major decision.
