Four area wrestlers take first at BGM

BROOKLYN — Nine area wrestlers traveled to BGM to compete in a girls' wrestling tournament on Saturday and all of them came home with at least a third-place finish in their respective pods.

Colfax-Mingo's Danica Linn, Miranda McGill and Maggie Schroeder all won their weight classes and were joined by Lynnville-Sully's Elizabeth Elliott at the top of their brackets.

McGill won all three of her matches by fall, while Elliott was 3-0 with two pins and Schroeder was 2-0 with two falls.

Linn was 2-1 on the day but took first because of a tiebreaker. She lost her first match 6-2 then won by fall and claimed a 1-0 decision.

Mariah Webster was second in her pod after going 2-1. She won 11-6 and then was given a win by injury default.

The rest of the area wrestlers placed third. Joslyn Dawson, Kylie Doty, Kirsten Frier and Melany Vry all were 1-2 in their three matches.

Doty's win was a 16-0 technical fall. She lost twice to two wrestlers from Waverly-Shell Rock. Frier and Vry both had a win by pin.
