Wendell Robert (Bob) Houser passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2020, at the age of 86.
Bob was born Aug. 24, 1934, to the late Alfred Houser and Nellie (Dole) Houser/Dahl.
Bob grew up in the Moulton area and graduated from Moulton-Udell High School. He moved to Newton and worked 30 years at Maytag, retiring from the dryer assembly line in 1985. He was most passionate about farming, starting with a few acres in Newton, trying his hand with a variety of animals before settling on Angus cattle and planting crops. In 1995, he moved back to Moulton where he continued with crops and cattle. He enjoyed a good western movie, country music, an engaging debate with anyone and loved his wife Margaret's home cooking.
Beloved husband to Margaret (Erskine); and father of Aileen (Mike) Brown, Roberta (Kiley) Kirby, Anita (Dennis) James and Wayne (Dana) Houser; dear grandfather of Paul (Rachelle) Mellick, Ryan (Crystal) Mellick, Curtis (Caitlin) Mellick, Clayton Kirby, Zachary (Katie) James, Colton (Nicole) James, Josiah James, Whitney Houser, Austin (Stefanie) Houser and Hailey Houser; dearest great-grandfather of 15; cherished brother to Keith, Mark, Sue, Lorraine, Jan and Teri; brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Ben and Kelly Houser.
A visitation and service will be Friday, Oct. 30 at the Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene at 405 Myra Lane, Moravia, IA 52571. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. with a service directly following at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Mt. Ararat Cemetery east of Centerville.
