OSCEOLA — PCM’s football team completed an undefeated regular season after rushing for a season-high 502 yards on Oct. 9.
Sage Burns ran for a career-high 222 yards and three TDs on 22 carries and Jacob Van Winkle gained a career-high 190 yards and scored four TDs on 15 carries as PCM won 70-21 on the road during Class 2A District 8 play.
The third-ranked Mustangs (7-0, 5-0) outscored Clarke 28-0 in the first and third quarters and won the game despite being flagged for 15 penalties. Clarke was called for just one penalty.
PCM could play Clarke again in the postseason as playoff matchups were released on Oct. 10.
The Mustangs earned a first-round bye after winning the District 8 title.
They are the top seed in Pod 14 and will meet the winner between Saydel (3-4) and Clarke (1-6) in Round 2 at 7 p.m. on Oct. 23 in Monroe.
The 28-0 first quarter included a 5-yard TD run by Burns, a 32-yard TD run by Stock, a 21-yard TD run by Van Winkle and the 45-yard TD pass from Stock to Fenton.
In the second quarter, Clarke scored twice before PCM got a 17-yard TD run from Burns.
One of Clarke’s TD came on third and 17 and both of them were aided by penalties. The Indians also got an extra possession when they recovered an onside kick.
The third-quarter touchdowns came from Burns on a 15-yard run, Van Winkle on runs on 51 and 22 yards and Boell’s 35-yard interception return.
Van Winkle had a 31-yard TD run in the fourth.
August Stock rushed for 74 yards and a TD on four carries and was 5-of-10 through the air for 80 yards and another TD. He also threw two interceptions.
Landon Fenton had one catch for a 45-yard TD and Gatlin Boell had two catches for 25 yards. Fenton also went 12 yards on his only carry and Brayden Berger had 10 yards on his two catches.
Boell also had a pick-six of 35 yards on defense. Durant Van Dyke led the defense with seven tackles, four tackles for loss and three sacks in the win.
PCM’s defense had seven sacks on the night. Caleb Duinink, Connor Bennett, Colby Tool and Cooper Sloan all had one sack.
Tool also added five tackles and two tackles for loss.
Bennett and Andrew Mitchell each had 3.5 tackles.
Tyler Kuecker made all 10 of his PATs and four of his 11 kickoffs went for touchbacks.
Clarke fell to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in district play.
