NCMP scores easy wins on Senior Night

The final home meet of the season for the Newton-Colfax-Mingo-Pella-PCM girls’ swim team featured a lot of fun for the Aquagirls on Tuesday night.

The Aquagirls mixed up the lineup and still cruised to a pair of wins over Williamsburg and Oskaloosa at the Marv Zimmerman Pool inside the Newton YMCA.

NCMP had the top two times in six different events, defeating Williamsburg 64-27 and dominating Oskaloosa 81-5 on Senior Night.

“Senior Night was a success,” NCMP coach Sarah Patterson said. “We mixed up the lineup, which made for a fun meet. It was a great night for the girls.”

The Aquagirls started the night with a 1-2 finish in the 200-meter medley relay.

Junior Hannah Nedder, junior Maggie Garrett, senior Chloe Kibbee and sophomore Lillie Ray were first with a time of 2 minutes, 14.39 seconds.

The runner-up team was sophomore Maylei Ruggles, junior Grace Benson, junior Emma Curry and freshman Brooke Linahon and they finished in 2:18.14.

Kibbee was part of two wins in her final home meet as an Aquagirl. She won the 200 individual medley in 2:58.2. Linahon was a close second in 2:58.85.

A pair of seniors went 1-2 in the 200 freestyle. Natalie Boll was the winner in 2:31.1 and Arabella Eide took second in 2:37.07.

Eight seniors swam on two different 200 freestyle relay teams and NCMP went 2-3.

The second-place team included Kibbee, Eide, senior Kali Smith and senior Hailey Trease and they finished in 2:16.75.

Seniors Makenna Brooks, Kenleigh Jack, Jaden Hunter and Boll took third in 2:23.93.

NCMP also went 1-2 in the 400 freestyle relay. Linahon, Garrett, Trease and Ray won the race in 4:35.4 and Eide, Benson, junior Dani Dalastra and Nedder were second in 4:39.

Ruggles and Curry went 1-2 in the 100 freestyle. Ruggles finished in 1:05.28 and Curry hit the wall in 1:10.18.

Ruggles finished first against Oskaloosa in the 100 breaststroke and was second in the event against Williamsburg. Her time was 1:30.05.

Junior Kallie Van Kley finished third in the event with a time of 1:33.85.

Nedder and Benson were first and second in the 400 freestyle. Nedder claimed the victory in 5:00.25 and Benson was second in 5:32.23.

Ray won the 100 butterfly in 1:15.81. Boll was second in the event against Oskaloosa and third against Williamsburg. Boll’s time was 1:22.48.

Garrett claimed victory in the 50 freestyle with a time of 30.19 seconds.

Junior Maggie Williams was second against Oskaloosa and third against Williamsburg in the 100 backstroke. Williams finished with a time of 1:33.83.

Individual winners in JV races included Dalastra in the 200 freestyle, Brooks in the 100 freestyle, junior Hannah Schwickerath in the 400 freestyle and freshman Estella Allen in the 100 breaststroke.

At the meet’s first rest break, NCMP recognized 10 seniors for their efforts in the pool the past few seasons. Those 10 seniors included Boll, Eide, Kibbee, Smith, Jack, Brooks, Hunter, Trease, Mik Creech and Ally Farver.

The Aquagirls made up their meet with Ankeny Centennial on Thursday.

They compete against Waukee and Southeast Polk at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Wellmark YMCA in Des Moines.
