Baxter's Tuhn finishes third at Nevada Cub CC Invite

COLO — Baxter junior Elie Tuhn ran on her former home course and raced against her former teammates from Nevada when the Bolts' cross country teams faced a tough field at the Nevada Cub Cross Country Invitational at Hickory Grove Park on Monday.

Tuhn, who jumped into the rankings at No. 22 in Class 1A on Tuesday, finished third overall in the girls' 5K race.

The Baxter girls faced two ranked teams and some ranked individual runners.

Tuhn turned in her best performance of the season, taking third overall with a season-best time of 20 minutes, 39.45 seconds.

Class 3A No. 5 Ellie Meyer of Iowa Falls-Alden won the race in 19:11.71 and 2A No. 17 Reece Johnson of Roland-Story was second in 20:33.11.

The Bolts had enough runners for a team score for the first time this season as they finished 10th with 245 points.

Class 2A No. 9 Roland-Story won the team title with 55 points. Class 3A "team to watch" Gilbert was next with 73 points and 3A No. 13 North Polk scored 83 points in third.

Iowa Falls-Alden (126) was fourth and Nevada (133) finished fifth in the 12-team field.

Senior Kailee Conradi finished 38th in the girls' 5K race with a time of 23:54.40. Freshman Regan Russell (26:27.72) was 66th, senior Merrin Ziesman (27:00.41) was 69th and freshman Morgan Hansen (27:56.56) finished 76th.

Baxter's boys did not have enough runners for a team score. Freshman Logan Jones (20:34.09) finished 74th in the boys' 5K race followed by freshman Keenan Varner (24:13.49) in 80th, sophomore Curtis Gliem (25:04.90) in 82nd and freshman Callyn Bishop (25:35.49) in 84th.

Class 3A No. 3 North Polk had the top three finishers and won the team title with 24 points followed by Gilbert (66), Nevada (81), East Marshall (122) and Collins-Maxwell (187).

Baxter competes in the Colo-NESCO meet at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at Dakins Lake.
