Ten Mustangs medal in home XC meet

MONROE — PCM sophomore Paige Steehoek and freshman Tiffani Koonce were both faster than Class 2A No. 25 Macy Hill of Davis County during the Mustangs' home meet on Tuesday.

Steenhoek was the runner-up in the girls' 5K race, Koonce finished fourth and eight PCM girls earned medals as the Mustangs were second in the team race.

Senior Beau Webb and junior Kyle Sanders also medaled in the boys' 5K race.

The date for the meet was moved from Thursday to Tuesday, the location switched from the golf course to the high school and the number of teams shrunk for the Mustangs' annual meet.

Steenhoek's second-place time was clocked at 21 minutes, 1 second. She trailed race winner Jaclyn Holmes of Pella Christian by just 5 seconds.

Koonce's finished her 5K in 21:53, which was 2 seconds in front of No. 25 Hill from Davis County.

Davis County (29) won the team title, finishing 13 points ahead of PCM (42). The visiting Mustangs put all seven of their varsity runners in the top 10. Pella Christian finished with 71 points in third.

Sophomore Riley DeVore (24:12) and sophomore Sophia Steenhoek (24:12.1) finished 11th and 12th, respectively, while junior Delaney Baird (24:44), junior Taryn Steenhoek (24:48) and sophomore Jillian Fairbanks (25:00) were next in 14-15-16.

Senior Margo Chipps also earned a medal in 21st as her time was clocked at 26:18. Sophomore Cate Humpal missed a medal by one spot as she was 26th in 29:16.

In the boys' 5K race, Webb was 10th for PCM. He hit the finish line in 19:20. Sanders earned one of the final medals as he placed 24th with a time of 20:52.

Sophomore Caden Bouwkamp ended up 28th in 20:58 and senior Garin Padget was right behind him in 29th with a time of 28:58.01. Senior Colton St. Pierre finished 36th in 22:19.

Class 2A No. 6 Davis County won the team title with 18 points. Pella Christian was next with 49 followed by PCM (89) and Ankeny Christian Academy (96).

Class 2A No. 4 Kenny Cronin of Davis County won the boys' 5K race in 16:38 followed by sixth-ranked Carson Shively of Davis County in 16:47.

PCM competes at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday in Knoxville.
