Newton Police Department
• Brandon S. Stevens, 28, of Newton, was arrested at 7:50 p.m. July 28 at in the 300 block of North Ninth Avenue West on a Jasper County warrant for failure to appear on a DWLS charge. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Kenneth W. Kirk, 59, of Newton, was charged with trespassing at 9:50 p.m. June 4 in the 400 block of South Second Avenue East. According to the Newton Police Department, Kirk entered the residence in the 400 block of South Second Avenue East without permission. Kirk was arrested on the warrant for the trespass charge at 8:09 p.m. July 28 at his residence and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Christopher L. Cleveland, 38, of Newton, was charged with fifth degree theft and trespassing at 11:09 a.m. July 22 in the 1500 block of First Avenue East. According to the Newton Police Department, Hy-Vee employees witnessed Cleveland enter the Hy-Vee Wine and Spirits. Cleveland had a bar/ban trespass order against him. After entering the store Cleveland selected a bottle of Jim Beam Apple valued at $20.37 from the shelf. After selecting the alcohol, Cleveland concealed the alcohol on his person and left the store. Cleveland was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Nigel W. Graves, 39, of Newton, and Diane R. Filson, 53, of Newton, were both charged with consumption in public places at 1:45 a.m. July 28 in the 600 block of East Eighth Street South. According to the Newton Police Department, officers observed two people sitting on the curb with an open bottle of alcohol next to them. As officers talked to Graves and Filson, they had slurred speech, slow movements and were not able to stand without assistance. Graves and Filson kept repeating themselves and were given a large amount of time to contact someone for a ride and they were not able to use their cell phones correctly to call anyone. Graves refused a PBT but had a bottle of peppermint schnapps in his pocket that was half gone. Filson consented to a PBT with showed a BAC over .200. Graves and Filson refused their right to a chemical test. Both Graves and Filson were arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
