The Newton YMCA is rolling out a new rewards program that works to give people a little one on one time while working out. The facility will be offering one free session of personal training per five purchased throughout the month of August.
There are varying packages Newton YMCA members can purchase for the sessions. The cost are one session for $45, five sessions for $150, 10 sessions for $250, 15 sessions for $350 or 20 sessions for $450. For each five sessions customers will receive one free session during the month of August.
“We are having a personal training sale in August,” Newton YMCA Aquatics and Wellness Director Nick Shelton said.
The personal sessions will take place in Studio B, named the Wellness Studio, where people can feel more comfortable returning to the YMCA while the coronavirus pandemic is currently ongoing.
“My thought on this was if people were scared to come back to the gym or didn’t feel comfortable being around a lot of people. They could just go down to the studio with the personal trainer, have that one on one time without having to be around anybody,” Shelton said.
After each session, the trainers will clean all of the equipment that was used during the session. The sessions will be tailored to what the client wants after sitting down for a consultation with the personal trainer.
“They are really going to tailor that program to you specifically,” Shelton said.
The idea behind this was to give people a place they might feel more comfortable getting exercise since the coronavirus pandemic has kept people inside more than normal. YMCA staff hopes free sessions will hopefully help people become more active.
“I just looked at all the clients that my personal training staff had and about half of them, probably around there, didn’t feel comfortable coming back. I just tried to think of a way to make them feel comfortable being in the Y,” Shelton said.
Those who are interested in participating can call the Newton YMCA at 641-792-4006 or stop in during normal business hours, 1701 S. Eighth Ave. E. The sale will start this week and run through the end of August.
“I feel like it’s a good thing. I think the more variety of programs or variety of different options to give people is always good,” Shelton said.
