Newton Police Department
• Adam J. Halterman Jr, 21, of Newton, was arrested at 11:36pm July 9 at in the 800 block of South Second Avenue West on a Jasper County warrant for violation of probation on a controlled substance charge. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Karen L. Christy, 50, of Newton, was charged with operating while under the influence at 11:56 a.m. June 29 in the 700 block of First Avenue East. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a call for an intoxicated female in the store attempting to purchase more alcohol. A witness observed Christy drive to the store. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Christy who was sitting in her vehicle. Christy had an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person with bloodshot and watery eyes. Christy admitted to drinking one drink before she drove to the store. She was unsteady on her feet and officers assisted her to the patrol car. Christy consented to the horizontal gaze nystagmus which she failed and completed the preliminary breath test which indicated above the legal limit. Christy submitted to the datamaster for chemical testing which indicated her BAC at 0.259. Christy was cited and released to appear in court.
• Alexander J. Deboef, 27, of Mitchellville, was charged with operating while under the influence at 12:30 a.m. July 6 in the 900 block of North Sixth Avenue East. According to the Newton Police Department, officers were on an active patrol when they ran a plate which stated the registered owner was suspended. Officers also confirmed this through Jasper County Dispatch. Officers turned around to attempt to make a traffic stop on the vehicle. Once officers caught up to the vehicle the drive had pulled into his driveway. Officers made contact with Deboef and ran him through Jasper County Dispatch and they said he was suspended. While officers spoke with Deboef, an odor of an alcoholic beverage was noted coming from the vehicle. Deboef admitted to drinking and refused sobriety maneuvers. Deboef submitted to a chemical test of breath which registered a BAC of .099. Deboef was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Brock M. Casady, 34, of Hampton, was charged with fifth-degree theft at 1:36 p.m. June 19 in the 1700 block of First Avenue East. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a call for a theft of shoes. Officers made contact with Casady shortly afterwards but it was not unknown at the time he had stolen shoes, as well. Casady took Trail Guide Greylock brown boots size 8.5, valued at $21.37 and left his shoes behind. Officers saw Casady wearing the shoes during the initial contact. On June 20, officers located Casady still wearing the shoes. Casady admitted to taking the shoes without paying for them. Casady was cited and released to appear in court.
