C-M baseball snaps five-game losing streak

COLFAX — Brady Berkey struck out 10 and allowed no earned runs over seven innings, but Colfax-Mingo's baseball team lost 1-0 to Keota on Thursday during South Iowa Cedar League play.

Berkey surrendered just four hits and walked three but the Tigerhawks mustered only three hits on their end.

The loss was the fifth in a row for Colfax-Mingo. The Tigerhawks snapped that streak with a road win over Montezuma on Friday.

Colfax-Mingo (5-7 overall, 4-5 in conference play) and Keota combined for seven hits and all of them were singles. Zach Steenhoek, Cole Bracewell and Wyatt Gull all had one hit apiece for the Tigerhawks.

Colten Clarahan outpitched Berkey, striking out 12 and walking none while allowing three hits in the shutout. Keota (5-5, 4-5) scored its only run in the second inning.

Colfax-Mingo 7, Montezuma 3

Colfax-Mingo cranked out 12 hits and took advantage of five Montezuma errors. The Braves only had five hits at the plate, too.
