Wilma’s Ice Cream ready to serve up sweet treats at Sned’s

Customers can get food through drive-up, carhop or outside dining

The coronavirus pandemic may have forced Sned’s to close its doors to customers but that didn’t stop them from moving forward with adding new treats to the menu. Now Wilma’s Ice Cream is ready for customers to enjoy.

The owners of Sned’s Hal “Sned” and Linda “Wilma” Snedeker had closed its restaurant area of Sned’s to customers due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now they have recently reopened to customers in a different way including carhop service, an outside dining area and a recently installed drive-up window.

“We put the drive up window in just for the pandemic,” Hal Snedeker said.

Now there is a new addition, Wilma’s Ice Cream, which came from Linda’s desire to have the ability to serve customers ice cream. The wheels were already in motion for the ice cream portion to be open and then the coronavirus pandemic put everything on hold.

“We were within a week or so of being ready to kick the doors open and open it up and then the pandemic hit so then we didn’t do anything. We waited for awhile,” Hal Snedeker said.

There is plenty of ice cream concoctions now available at Sned’s. You can get treats like milkshakes with special flavors like a banana cream pie or a black raspberry among other sweet treats including 11 different flavors.

“So far, I am hearing pretty good feedback. It’s just something different for everyone,” Linda Snedeker said.

While the pandemic may have altered the timing of the ice cream shop addition, it is now fully operational paired with the usual Sned favorites.

“Our whole thing has been always to try to do something nice for Newton,” Hal Snedeker said.

Wilma’s Ice Cream and Sned’s are offering plenty of ways for people to come and enjoy their food whether its eating outside under the umbrellas, going to the drive up window or utilizing the carhop services the restaurant is ready to go and especially the ice cream part.

“We just want to let people know that we have ice cream,” Hal Snedeker said. “Right now they see the sign Sned’s and they think, ‘oh he’s back with his Italian food, and the grinders and the tenderloins.’ They don’t even think about ice cream because we never had it before.”
