The Newton Police Department recently conducted a Traffic Enforcement Project in the City of Newton. Newton Police focused on seat belt enforcement and other traffic violations.
The project took place between the hours of noon to 4 p.m., resulting in 13 traffic stops on motorists. During the project, Newton Police issued 19 citations and warnings for violations of the Iowa Traffic Code. There were three citations written for no seat belt, window tint and a moving violation. There were 16 warnings; one for speeding, three registration violations, 5 no proof of insurance, three moving violations and four equipment violations.
Voluntary compliance with Iowa’s traffic safety laws is always encouraged. With the warmer weather approaching we want to remind driver’s to slow down and look for children and bicyclists.
Primary funding for the project was provided by the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
