Virginia M. Williams, 100, of Prairie City, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2020, at Park Centre in Newton. A graveside funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23 at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 22 at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Memorials may be directed to the Prairie City United Methodist Church or the Prairie City Rec Park. The daughter of Lewis and Laurena (Gosselink) Kool, Virginia was born May 11, 1920, in Monroe. Nov. 8, 1938, she was united in marriage to Hugh L. Williams in Des Moines.  Virginia worked as a child care provider for more than 40 years, retiring in 2001. She also did oils for photo studios. She was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 38 years. She enjoyed baking, sewing, Cub Scouts, Camp Fire Girls and PTA.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Raymond L. (Betty) Williams, Jerold L. (Mary) Williams, Lijean E. (Doug) Thomas and Marlys J. Guy; eight grandchildren, Dan (Beth) Williams, Deb (Troy) Brown, Dallas (Bev) Williams, David (Christine) Williams, Darrin (Krista) Williams, Rhonda Hall, Margaret (James) Gillihan and Shannon (Laura Crosslin) Guy; 15 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are six nephews. Preceding Virginia in death were her parents; husband in 1985; a grandson, Scott Guy; and a son-in-law, Mark Guy.
