Hawk baseball claims win in 2020 opener

NORTH ENGLISH — Blaize Kuhlmann had a game to begin his senior season for the Lynnville-Sully Hawk baseball team. In the Hawks’ 2020 season opener on Monday, Kuhlmann went 4-for-4 in a 5-4 win over host English Valleys.

Kuhlmann dialed up a solo home run, two doubles and a single at the plate. He had two stolen bases. As the Hawks’ starting pitcher, he worked four innings and racked up 10 strikeouts. He allowed two runs on one hit, three walks and one hit batter.

Senior Bray Noun Harder came on in relief to get the pitching victory. He worked three innings allowing two runs on one hit and four walks. He struck out four.

Lynnville-Sully led 1-0 after one inning but the Bears scored twice in the fourth for a 2-1 lead.Lynnville-Sully was able to score two runs in the fifth to regain the lead and two more in the seventh for a 5-2 advantage.

Two of the runs came on a two-run home run by eighth-grader Corder Noun Harder, who also had a stolen base. Bray Noun Harder had a single and a stolen base.

Freshman Conner Maston, junior Payton Van Wyk and sophomore Owen Norrish had a single apiece for Lynnville-Sully. Senior Slater Young had a stolen base as the Hawks were 5-of-5 on stolen base attempts in the game.

Lynnville-Sully (1-0) plays West Marshall (1-0) at 6 p.m. Tuesday at State Center. The Hawks have their home opener at 6 p.m. Wednesday against Sigourney in Sully.
